Danny Masrin puts a smile on chairman’s face

Asian Tour chairman Jimmy Masrin had a special reason to be cheerful at the SMBC Singapore Open on Saturday when his son Danny shot a bogey-free 66 to soar up the leaderboard to joint 10th.

Danny Masrin belied his world ranking of 678th as he carded five birdies, including three in four holes from the 15th (his sixth hole of the day after starting at the 10th) at Sentosa Golf Club.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed a measure of success before over the Serapong course, finishing tied 12th at the SMBC Singapore Open in 2018.

Danny Masrin had one of the best results of his career on home soil last December with tied fifth place in the Indonesian Masters and last week at the Hong Kong Open he was joint 30th.

Before embarking on his professional golf career in Asia, Masrin studied business management and administration at Bradley University in Illinois and played on the college’s golf team.

Now a regular on the Asian Tour, Masrin admits that he occasionally tries to help his businessman father with matters golf.

For sure, Jimmy Masrin would have been a very proud dad at Sentosa Golf Club on Saturday.
