Casey drives to victory

England’s Paul Casey, joint runner-up at the SMBC Singapore Open in January, returned to winning ways with victory in the Porsche European Open.

It was Casey’s second triumph of the year after he retained the Valspar Championship title on the PGA Tour in March but his first European Tour title for five years.

Casey shot six-under 66 in the final round in Germany to finish a stroke ahead of Scotland’s Bob MacIntyre, Germany’s Bernd Ritthammer and Matthias Schwab of Austria.

“This is an incredibly prestigious tournament,” said Casey. “I’m over the moon to be (Porsche) European Open champion.”

At Sentosa Golf Club in January, Casey finished alongside Yoshinori Fujimoto of Japan in second place after a thrilling final round. They were two shots adrift of winner Jazz Janewattananond of Thailand.

The 2020 SMBC Singapore Open will be staged on the Serapong Course from 16-19 January.
