Thailand’s young gun Jazz Janewattananond will compete in this week’s PGA Championship, the second Major of the year, thanks chiefly to his brilliant victory at the SMBC Singapore Open in January.
His win at Sentosa Golf Club saw Jazz jump 37 places from 111st to 74th in the Official World Golf Ranking, virtually assuring him a spot at the PGA Championship.
The 23 year old has recorded four top five finishes since winning the SMBC Singapore Open by two strokes from England’s Paul Casey and Yoshinori Fujimoto of Japan.
He has improved to 72nd in the standings thanks to that good run of form this season.
He will play alongside Americans Tyler Hall and Michael Kim in the first round on Thursday with a 2.11 pm (local time) tee off at Bethpage State Park, Black Course, Farmingdale, New York.
His triumph at the SMBC Singapore Open also earned Jazz a ticket to The Open at Royal Portrush, Northern Ireland, in July.
Other Singapore Open champions who will compete at the PGA Championship from Thursday include Spain’s Sergio Garcia (2018), Adam Scott of Australia (2005, 2006, 2010), England’s Ian Poulter (2009) and Shaun Micheel of the United States (1998).
