Prayad puts on another Senior show

The remarkable Prayad Marsksaeng, popular winner of the SMBC Singapore Open in 2017, chalked up another memorable result with a 10th place finish in The Senior Open at St Andrews, Scotland, on Sunday.

Four consistent rounds of 70, 70, 70, 71 for a seven under total at the Home of Golf saw the 52-year-old Prayad come in just five shots adrift of winner Miguel Angel Jimenez of Spain.

Prayad’s countryman Thaworn Wiratchant, the Singapore Open champion in 2001, ended the week two shots better in joint sixth place.

Thaworn was joint leader after an opening 65 before slipping back with a second round 76. However, he regrouped and shot back-to-back 69s over the weekend to climb back into the top 10.

Prayad has shone since his one-stroke victory in the SMBC Singapore Open last year with multiple successes culminating in a second successive top spot on the Japan Senior Tour Order of Merit.

His victory at Sentosa Golf Club in 2017 was his 10th victory on the Asian Tour and sixth success on the Japan Golf Tour.

Thaworn won 18 times on the Asian Tour (the Singapore Open victory was his second) and since joining the senior ranks the 51 year old has lifted two titles on the European (Staysure) Senior Tour.
